About

Mogi Taylor is a Jazz saxophonist, clarinetist, pianist, arranger, and composer. He specializes in teaching improvisation, sound production, rhythm, theory, harmony, and ear training. Mogi has played and studied saxophone, clarinet, and piano for most of his life. He began playing professionally at 12 years old and has since performed at the Newport Jazz Festival (Rhode Island), the 2018 Grammy Awards (New York City), the Umbria Jazz Festival (Italy), the International Blues Challenge (Memphis) and numerous Jazz and Blues clubs in and around the Houston area. Mogi was one of two alto saxophonists nationwide selected as part of the 2018 Grammy Jazz Band. He was also one of four alto saxophonists selected as part of the 2018 Texas-All State Jazz Band. Mogi is a three-time YoungArts Jazz winner and was recently selected to tour Milwaukee with renowned trumpeter Marquis Hill as part of the Herbie Hancock Institute  All-Star Jazz Sextet. He has performed with Jazz artists such as Jimmy Greene, Jason Moran, Jon Baptiste, Shawn Conley, Ernesto Vega, and many more.

Teaching Style

I specialize in teaching improvisation, sound production, time, theory, harmony, and ear training. I am also happy to help students with arranging and composing their own music. My goal is to help students achieve whatever their goals may be. I work with students by patiently instilling in them what I have learned in my own study of music, specifically Jazz. I will help students learn new repertoire, increase their Jazz vocabulary, generate a beautiful tone, improvise confidently, and become better all-around musicians.
