About
My name is Brayden Friesen and I am a professional trombonist and educator based in Montréal and Toronto, Canada. I received my Bachelor of Music in Trombone Performance from the University of Toronto and an Post Grad Artist Diploma from the Glenn Gould School at the Royal Conservatory of Music. I am active in the orchestral scene in Toronto, performing regularly with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the Canadian Opera Company, the Toronto Concert Orchestra, The Hamilton Philharmonic, and many others. Some achievements of mine include being named to CBC's list of "30 Hot Classical Musicians under 30" in 2018, being a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Canada from 2015-2018, and being selected as a fellow at the Colorado College Summer Music Festival in 2019-2020. I also enjoy playing Jazz, Salsa, Funk, and all other genres related to the trombone. I have had the fortune to perform in halls across Canada and the world, including the Berlin Concert Hall, Usher Hall in Edinburgh, and in Portugal and the Netherlands.
Teaching Style
I have been teaching privately for over 7 years, and have maintained full time studio of students for the last 3 years. I enjoy teaching all ages and abilities, from beginner students or adults, to advanced players looking to audition and get accepted to prestigious music schools. I modify and adapt my teaching style for every student I teach, as everyone learns differently and has different strengths and weaknesses. I seek to provide a balanced approach to brass learning, focusing on the fundamentals of the instrument as well as musicianship and performing and ultimately having fun and enjoying playing the instrument!
