Haesol Lee

She is currently a master’s student at The Juilliard School with Li Lin where she served as a concertmaster in the orchestra. She received her bachelor of music degree from Rice University where she studied with Paul Kantor on full scholarship. Before studying at Rice University, Haesol also studied chamber and orchestral music at Colburn School on scholarship and attended summer festivals including Meadowmout School of Music, Aspen Music Festival, and Madeline Island Music Festival with full scholarship. She has worked with renowned artists including Paul Katz, Bing Wong, Clive Greensmith, Jupiter Quartet and Miró Quartet. She has also performed in venues including Carnegie Hall, Walt Disney Concert Hall, and Los Angeles Music Center. Haesol plays a 1900 Stefano Scarampella provided by the Juilliard School. While being an active performer, she has a great passion for teaching and has been teaching for 7 years now. 

While I expect the best of my students, I also want the learning environment to be comfortable enough for them to share their feelings and opinions. Since music is ultimately an aural representation of one’s emotions, the environment should be a space where they can play their hearts out. Building strong relationships with my students helps me to create this comfortable atmosphere. I take notes on all of my students during the lesson. The notes include the repertoire they are working on, their short-term goals, their hobbies, and sometimes even their favorite food. I do this so I can get to know the individuals really well and earn their trust and respect as someone who really cares about them. There are a lot of ups and downs when learning how to play the violin, and when my students struggle during their downs, I struggle with them trying to find the way out. I know that there are downs and I’ve been through them. I am the teacher that stays beside the students to guide them in the right direction. Through my guidance, I believe my students will strive to be their best and use the motivation to create powerful music.
