Steven Scott
About
Hello everybody,
My name is Steven Scott. I first started playing clarinet when I was in the sixth grade, and have been playing for over 20+ years now. I picked up the saxophone and flute later in high school and college. I received a Bachelors of Music Education Degree from Sam Houston State University and a graduate degree in music composition and theory.
Currently, I am the woodwind specialist/assistant band director at a public school right outside of Houston, TX. My responsibilities include assisting with the marching band and wind ensemble, directing the mariachi group, co-directing the symphonic band, teaching AP Music Theory, as well as traveling to the middle school to teach woodwind students.
Prior to teaching, I was a freelance music orchestrator and music copyist based in Los Angeles for several years. I was fortunate to work on several Hollywood projects such as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, among several others. To learn more about my freelance experience, please click here: IMDb
I moved back to Texas in 2018 to pursue my passion for teaching and to be closer to family and friends. In addition to being an educator, I am also a published composer and have written several pieces for concert band.
Thanks for taking the time to get to know a little about me. I look forward to getting to know you and helping further your knowledge of music.
Teaching Style
Education is my passion and I find teaching music very rewarding. My favorite part of teaching is getting to know my students and watching them grow into outstanding musicians. I strive to make my students feel accomplished at the end of every lesson and I encourage them in the face of hurdles and obstacles. There are many bumps in the road to learning music through playing an instrument, and I am confident we can navigate those roads successfully together.
