About

Hi, I'm Philip!
I'm a professional Bass player and teacher based in Amsterdam.
I have studied with some of the best teachers in Europe as well as famous bassists from the New York Jazz Scene. Besides my studies I have been actively performing, recording and teaching since age 16, which led me to play at different festivals and venues such as North Sea Jazz, JazzOpen Stuttgart, Bimhuis, DeDoelen Rotterdam.
I'm calm and easy going and I want to pass on the knowledge I got from my teachers as well as my own experience. I always focus on getting you ready or better at playing in a band, since that's what we do as bass players! I'm experienced in and open to a wide variety of styles, my specialization being Jazz.

Teaching Style

I have been working as a bassplayer in various different projects and bands, playing mostly Jazz music, but also venturing into Pop, Hip-Hop, Rock and Latin music.

As a teacher, I have taught students privately as well as having worked at my Alma Mater Codarts University of Music in Rotterdam as a teaching assistant.

Curriculum

Here's an example for how a 1h lesson could look like:

5 min - Talking, Set-up, Discussing the progress and content of the lesson
15 min - Technical training (Feedback, learning new techniques or exercises)
10 min - Theory, Ear Training or Rhythmic Training
25 min - Learning a song and approaching it together
5 min - Discussing the content of the lesson and what to do at home

This would be one way to do it, but I of course adapt my teaching style to you and your pace.
