Drew Schulz
About
I'm Drew. I've been playing horn for over half of my life and also play trumpet. I perform regularly with the South East Iowa Symphony as a substitute and have competed at events such as the International Womens Brass Conference. I am currently finishing up a degree in Music Education at Truman State University.
Teaching Style
I like to allow my students to take ownership over their learning. I usually make suggestions as to what books they want to work out of and make suggestions as to what solo repertoire they would like to work on. At the end of the day though, the students are the ones that have to do the work and I want to make sure that they enjoy the process. If this means we play Star Wars once a month to bring some life into the lesson then so be it.
For my younger students this is really important as to keep them motivated we have to work extra hard to find fun and fulfilling music.
Curriculum
For horn students I usually teach out of Kopprasch 60 Selected Studies, and the Maxime Alphonse series.
Normally I teach trumpet students from a set of personal exercises that I have gathered over the years.
Most of these are free and publicly available online.
