Marshall Read

Originally from Perth, Australia, Marshall began learning piano at the age of 7 and the violin at 8. He quickly took to the violin and was offered a specialist music scholarship to Churchlands Senior High School. By the end of his time at Churchlands, Marshall was awarded several prizes including top instrumental student & music dux and gained his Associate Diploma from the AMEB.

Following high school Marshall began studying a Bachelor of Music (Performance) at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music under the tutelage of Alice Waten. As a student at the Conservatorium he was awarded the Kathleen & Alison Short Scholarship for three consecutive years, and had the opportunity to perform throughout Australia and attend the Mozarteum International Summer Academy, studying with Barnabas Kelemann.

2021 saw Marshall move to Copenhagen to pursue a Masters at the Royal Danish Academy of Music, studying with Elisabeth Schneider and chamber music with Frederik Sjölin (cellist of the Danish String Quartet). 

Since 2025, Marshall has been studying a Concertmaster Diploma with Mr Florin Iliescu, 1st Concertmaster of the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra. 

Marshall has played with some of the post prestigious orchestras in Australia, Germany & Scandinvia, including; Copenhagen Philharmonic, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Göteborg Symphony, Malmö Symphony, Opera Australia Orchestra & Sydney Symphony Orchestra. 

In 2026 relocated to Berlin and is teaching & freelancing across Germany. 

I have been teaching violin/viola for over 10 years and in 2020-2021 I was employed by the West Australian Department of Education to teach violin/viola to primary school students. Each and every student is different, so I try and cater to your learning style.

Whether you're a complete beginner or already have experience, I can help you with your musical journey. In each lesson I focus on building a strong technical foundation, understanding music theory and learning repertoire. I aim to make it a positive learning environment for both student & teacher. I have experience teaching beginners through to advanced students.
