Vanessa Hannelly
About
Hi, I’m Vanessa. I’m a classically trained pianist, and I help students of all ages—especially beginners and those returning to piano—build confidence and develop a strong musical foundation. I also support students preparing for AMEB and Trinity exams in a structured and encouraging environment.
I have been playing the piano for over 17 years and hold a Bachelor of Music majoring in Classical Performance from the Australian Institute of Music (2017).
I achieved Grade 8 Piano with Trinity College London (2013) and Grade 5 Theory with AMEB (2010). I also studied Music Fundamentals 1–4 at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music Open Academy.
I am currently studying towards my ATCL Piano Diploma with Trinity College London and continue to develop my skills through private study. Alongside this, I am completing a Graduate Certificate in World Literature (French).
I am passionate about creating lessons that are engaging and enjoyable, while helping students build strong technique and a lifelong love of music.
Teaching Style
My teaching style is tailored to each individual student, based on their goals, learning style, and experience. I teach both students learning for enjoyment and those preparing for exams, and I have guided many students through AMEB and Trinity assessments.
I enjoy working with students of all ages and levels, and I aim to create a supportive and encouraging environment where students feel confident and motivated.
In lessons, students develop a strong foundation in piano technique, repertoire, sight reading, ear training, and music theory. I focus on helping students make steady progress while also enjoying the learning process.
Students can expect to:
- Build confidence in playing and performing
- Develop solid technical skills on the piano
- Strengthen musicianship, including aural skills and music theory
I offer both one-on-one and group lessons, and my goal is to inspire a lifelong love of music in every student.
Curriculum
I use a structured and flexible approach, selecting materials that best suit each student’s level, goals, and learning style.
For beginners, I often use:
- John Thompson’s Easiest Piano Course (for children)
- Adult All-in-One Course (including lesson, theory, and technique)
I also supplement these with additional repertoire and exercises to support technique, musicianship, and enjoyment.
