David Martínez
About
Hi! I’m a 27-year-old pianist and music teacher based in Metepec, State of Mexico.
My journey started with a strong classical foundation under multi-instrumentalist Alex Vega Florentino, covering everything from the Baroque era through modern composers. Right now, I’m studying Jazz Piano at the Conservatory of Music of the State of Mexico under instructors like Gladimir Alfonseca and Armando Velasco Morales, focusing heavily on functional harmony, improvisation, and developing a clear, personal voice on the instrument. Outside of teaching and studying, I’m the main pianist and keyboardist for David Banks, a funk/rock project based here in the State of Mexico.
I’ve taught students of all ages and skill levels—from kids picking up the instrument for the first time to adults looking to deepen their understanding of music—both through private lessons at my home studio in Metepec and at Studio Music & Arts Academia.
Whether your goal is to build solid classical technique, master harmony and chord voicings, or learn how to improvise freely across different genres, I focus on practical, engaging lessons tailored to what you actually want to play.
Teaching Style
My teaching centers on developing an organic connection to music—learning to feel rhythm and phrasing physically in your body while training your ear naturally. I bridge classical discipline with jazz freedom, using classical fundamentals to build rock-solid technique, sight-reading (solfége and rhythm), and performance poise, alongside jazz principles to master improvisation, harmony, and stylistic versatility.
I constantly push and challenge my students to elevate their technique, reading, and overall musicality so they feel fully prepared for any real-world situation—whether reading a chart on short notice, jamming with a band, or performing on stage. Ultimately, my goal goes beyond just teaching pieces: I want to help you uncover your authentic musical voice and give you the confidence to express yourself effortlessly alongside other musicians
