1. Introduction and Assessment: Begin by introducing yourself and establishing rapport with the student. Usually, during a demo class, I assess the student's prior knowledge, musical background, vocal range, and goals in learning Carnatic music. Based on student's profile, I customise my learning plan to suit the student's strength.

2. Fundamentals and Basics: Lay a strong foundation by focusing on the fundamental concepts of Carnatic music, including swara (notes), talam (rhythm), and ragas (melodic scales). Teach the student to identify and sing basic swara patterns and simple compositions in different talas (rhythmic cycles).

3. Syllabus Structure: I usually follow structured syllabus (SAMPADA certification by SiliconAndhra in affiliation with Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University, a NAAC accredited institution) tailored to the student's level and goals. Break down complex concepts into manageable lessons, gradually progressing from simple to more advanced topics.

4. Vocal Training: Conduct vocal exercises and warm-ups to improve the student's voice quality, pitch accuracy, breath control, and vocal range. Emphasize proper posture, pronunciation, and articulation techniques to develop a clear and melodious singing voice. I also provide recordings of the classes for easy reference to students

5. Raga Exploration: Introduce different Carnatic ragas and their characteristic features. Teach the student to recognize and differentiate between ragas through listening exercises, mnemonic phrases (raga lakshanas), and practical demonstrations.

6. Composition Learning: Teach traditional Carnatic compositions (kritis, varnams, krithis) in various ragas, focusing on melody, rhythm, and lyrical content. Break down compositions into smaller sections (pallavi, anupallavi, charanam) for easier learning and comprehension.

7. Improvisation Techniques: Introduce improvisational techniques such as alapana (melodic exploration), niraval (lyrical improvisation), and kalpana swara (rhythmic improvisation). Guide the student in developing creativity and expressiveness within the framework of Carnatic music. This is mostly for seasoned students.

8. Performance Practice: Provide opportunities for the student to practice performing Carnatic music solo or with accompaniment (tambura, mridangam, violin). Offer constructive feedback and encouragement to help the student gain confidence and stage presence.

9. Theory and Notation: Cover theoretical aspects of Carnatic music theory, including notation (swara notation, talam notation), terminology (shruti, laya, gamaka), and historical context. Supplement practical lessons with theoretical knowledge to deepen the student's understanding of the art form.

10. Assessment and Progress Tracking: Regularly assess the student's progress and track the student's improvement over time and adjust the teaching approach accordingly to address areas of weakness and reinforce strengths.

11. Encouragement and Support: Foster a positive and supportive learning environment where the student feels motivated and encouraged to explore and excel in Carnatic music. Provide constructive feedback, praise achievements, and inspire a lifelong love for this rich musical tradition.
