About

Hello! My name is Param Khandelwal, and I am a professional Indian Classical Bansuri (Indian Bamboo Flute) player and teacher. I hold a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Music (Bansuri specialization) and have dedicated my life to preserving and sharing the rich tradition of Hindustani Classical Music.

I have been teaching Bansuri since 2017, with extensive experience in both online international teaching and offline instruction. Over the years, I have guided students from different parts of the world, including the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, and Europe, helping them develop both technical skills and a deep appreciation for Indian music.

For me, music is more than a profession—it is a lifelong passion and a spiritual journey. My goal is to make the beautiful and meditative sound of the Bansuri accessible to students of all ages and backgrounds.

Teaching Style

My Teaching Approach

Structured Learning → I follow a step-by-step approach, beginning with correct posture, breathing techniques, finger placement, and sound production before progressing to alankars, ragas, and improvisation.

Personalized Lessons → Every student learns differently, so I customize each lesson according to individual goals, skill level, and learning pace.

Traditional Meets Modern → My teaching combines the authenticity of the Indian Guru–Shishya Parampara with a structured and practical methodology suitable for today's learners.

Theory and Practice Together → Along with flute playing, students gain an understanding of Indian classical music theory, rhythm (tala), notation, and the emotional expression (rasa) behind the music.

Curriculum

Teaching Method

My teaching approach is structured, personalized, and designed to help students build a strong foundation while enjoying the learning process. For beginners, classes start with the fundamentals, including understanding the bansuri, selecting the right flute, proper holding technique, breath control, and producing a clear, stable tone. Each concept is taught step-by-step, allowing students to develop confidence and progress at a comfortable pace.

As students advance, lessons expand to include Hindustani Classical Music (ragas, alap, taans, and improvisation), Semi-Classical Music (thumri, dadra, and bhajans), Ghazals and Sufi music, and Bollywood and Light Music. Alongside learning compositions, students receive training in posture, fingering techniques, rhythm, musical expression, and improvisation, helping them become well-rounded flute players.

Recommended Student Texts / Learning Materials

Students are provided with personalized lesson notes, practice exercises, and notation sheets based on their level and goals. Learning materials include:

Basic Alankars (Scale Exercises) for finger development and breath control
Raga-based exercises and compositions for classical training
Bhajans, Ghazals, and Sufi melodies for expression and musicality
Bollywood songs and light music pieces for practical application and enjoyment
Practice recordings and demonstrations to support home practice

No prior musical experience is required for beginners. Students only need a suitable bansuri and a willingness to practice consistently.
