Emily Ingels
About
Hello! My name is Emily Ingels, and I’ve been passionately teaching violin for the past 13 years. My journey with the violin began at the age of 10, and it has been a lifelong love affair with music ever since. I started out playing in my school orchestra program and eventually started taking lessons privately. I also played in one of my local youth symphonies, the Tacoma Youth Symphony, where as a student we even performed at Carnegie Hall. I then earned my Bachelor of Music degree in String Performance from Central Washington University. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with students of all ages and skill levels, helping them discover the joy and discipline of playing the violin.
My teaching philosophy centers around creating a supportive and engaging learning environment where students feel encouraged to explore their musical potential. I believe in tailoring my lessons to meet the unique needs and goals of each student, whether they are beginners just starting out or advanced players looking to refine their technique.
In addition to traditional teaching methods, I incorporate a variety of techniques to keep lessons fun and motivating. From classical pieces to contemporary music, I strive to make each lesson a rewarding experience. My goal is not only to teach my students how to play the violin but also to instill a lifelong appreciation for music.
Over the years, I have taught lessons in a private studio, worked as a violin coach for the Maple Valley Youth Symphony for 11 years and in 2020, I started teaching online when we couldn't have in person lessons due to the pandemic. It was during this time that I discovered how great teaching online was. Teaching online has allowed me to connect with more people while maintaining a balance with my family life. This flexibility ensures that I can provide high-quality lessons to my students without compromising on family time and is why I am so excited to now be teaching on lessonface.
I look forward to sharing my passion for the violin with you and helping you achieve your musical dreams!
Teaching Style
I believe that proper technique is key, whether you’re improving your skills, preparing for an audition, or learning new pieces for fun.
Depending on your age and experience level, I tailor my teaching approach to meet your needs. For younger beginning students, I like to use the Sassmannshaus: Early Start on the Violin series of books, which provide a fun and engaging introduction to the violin. For older students or those with some experience, I incorporate the Barbara Barber: Solos for young Violinists series along with scales and etudes to further develop their skills. Regardless of age or experience, I emphasize the importance of learning note names and understanding rhythm. This comprehensive approach ensures that all students build a solid foundation while enjoying the process of learning the violin or improving on the skills they already have.
