About

I am passionate about teaching music and creating an engaging, enjoyable learning environment for my students. With 13 years of teaching experience and 27 years of playing the saxophone, I’ve had the pleasure of working with a diverse range of students, including my current position with at-risk youth in Northeast Oklahoma. My students often start with little to no musical background, but through consistent effort and an encouraging atmosphere, they quickly excel. Within 2-3 years, many of them perform at high levels, with several earning All-District Honor Band distinctions and receiving substantial college scholarships.

Bands and ensemble under my direction have consistently earned Superior ratings at festivals throughout the southern midwest like the Heartland Music Festival, where in 2023 my small percussion section earned the Sectional Brillliance Award, earning this distinction among 100+ sections that were represented in that festival.

I earned my Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music from Trinity Bible College in 2010, with concentrations in Instrumental Performance and Contemporary Worship, as well as a second major in Business Administration and a minor in Biblical Studies. I also studied at Northern State University under the tutelage of Frederic Hemke Jr., Dr. Terry Beckler, Dr. Grant Manhart, Dr. Boyd Perkins.

Currently, I serve as chairman of the Eastern District Band Directors Association in eastern Oklahoma. I’m also the co-founder of NWA Saxophone Christmas, an initiative that brings saxophonists together for a festive celebration of music. In addition, I've been teaching percussion, specifically drumline instruments, for the past 15 years.

Teaching Style

My teaching philosophy is centered around fostering student 'buy-in' and helping each individual reach their full potential. I believe in breaking down complex musical concepts into approachable, fun, and engaging lessons that motivate students to continue learning. Whether you're learning the recorder, percussion, or saxophone, you can expect personalized instruction that adapts to your learning style and goals. I am also well-versed in teaching online and have found it to be an effective way to connect with and inspire students remotely.

Curriculum

Depending on which instruments you would like to study, I have a few different methods to choose from. Let's figure that out when you decide what instrument you'd like to learn!
