Hey! I’m Chris Bates, a music teacher based in Auckland, New Zealand, specializing in pop music. I began my musical journey with violin lessons as a child and later transitioned into singing, guitar, and songwriting at 13. Over the years, I’ve refined my craft, releasing songs on Spotify, such as 'Takeaway Cup', and 'Used to This', and performing at venues like Big Fan in Auckland. I’ve had the privilege of teaching music for over 5 years, including at schools like Eliette's Music Academy, where I helped students hone their vocal and instrumental skills.

I hold a Bachelor of Music (Popular Music) from the University of Auckland (2016-2019), which has provided a strong foundation in both performance and music theory. I’m now excited to offer private lessons, helping students develop their talents in a nurturing, personalized environment.

My teaching approach is highly personalized, focusing on the unique goals of each student. For guitar students, I cover everything from chord progressions to playing full songs. For aspiring songwriters, I’ll guide you through songwriting techniques and how to express your creativity through music. Singers will learn vocal techniques, breath control, and harmonies essential for pop music.
