About

My name is Jaime and I've been playing piano since I was seven years old. I attended a small private university called Alderson-Broaddus, where I graduated at the top of my class, having achieved a level 10 in Piano Performance. I obtained a Bachelor's in Music Performance. I was trained first and foremost in Classical and Sacred Music, but I enjoy a wide variety of genres!

After graduation, I went on to teach at a local music academy, where I had students from elementary school all the way through to adult. I have also had many private students at my home-based studio. I have over 15 years of experience teaching students of all ages and skill levels.

In addition to piano, I also play cello on the side and am learning classical guitar for fun. I have participated in a Classical Concert Choir, singing alto, and playing sacred music with my church's worship team.

Outside of music, I recently obtained my Master's in Biblical Theology. I enjoy cooking new recipes for my family and reading as many books as I can find time to fit in my schedule :)

Teaching Style

I am passionate about music, both as an artistic form of expression and as a way to broaden children's horizons and help them achieve in other areas as well. I find it fascinating that children who participate in music lessons often have higher academic success overall!

I believe music lessons should be a stress-free, fun and encouraging experience for students! I want my students to look forward to their lessons each week! While I will instruct and correct technique and musicianship, I strive to always do so in a way that encourages students and inspires them to continue pursuing their passion.

In addition to teaching private piano lessons, I have also homeschooled my children for the past 15 years, so I have a lot of experience with kids of all ages!

Curriculum

I am very flexible when it comes to text or method books for students. Different methods work better for different students, so I like to evaluate where a student is at before assigning specific books.

However, some lesson books/methods that I have found to be high quality include: Hal Leonard Student Piano Library, Piano Adventures by Nancy Faber, and Alfred's Basic Piano Course.

Of course, as students progress, they will work with more difficult and challenging materials outside of a basic lesson course.
