Samuel Ruiz
About
I am a classical and jazz pianist, trained singer and composer with expertise in jazz fusion, progressive rock, and postmodern music (21st-century composers). With over 6 years of teaching experience, I specialize in piano, music theory, voice, and composition for beginner to intermediate students. My approach blends analytical systems for structured learning and mimetic systems for intuitive development.
My passion for diverse musical styles and my personal challenges as a learner have shaped my multidisciplinary approach, valuing all genres as tools for growth and creativity.
Teaching Style
I believe in flexibility and adaptability, tailoring lessons to each student’s interests and goals. My teaching style encourages creativity, improvisation, and critical thinking, while maintaining a supportive and motivating environment.
I focus on understanding the music in order to produce the musical interpretation, and to reflect in its context to make better choices.
Curriculum
Teaching Method
My method combines structured learning with exploration:
- Analytical Approach: Breaking down music theory, harmony, and rhythm to build a strong foundation.
- Mimetic Approach: Learning by imitation, focusing on ear training, pattern recognition, and improvisation.
- Multidisciplinary Perspective: Using different genres and techniques to expand students' abilities.
- Creative Development: Incorporating composition, arranging, and improvisation as different perspectives for understanding
I also emphasize performance preparation, helping students build confidence and stage presence. Through psychological insights.
