About

My name is Vasileios Soukos, but many people call me “Bill.” I am originally from Greece and currently living in Groningen, the Netherlands. I finishing my bachelor's degree from the Prince Claus Conservatorium and work actively as a professional drummer. Recently, I took part in a jazz workshop in New York, organized by the TriBeCa Jazz Institute. My main focus is to explore the roots of jazz and understand how they can be applied to modern music, tracing the genre’s evolution through its historical timeline.

Teaching Style

I am focusing on developing my technique and practicing active listening. Together, we are here to deepen our understanding of the music and to explore how legends like Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Bud Powell, Thelonious Monk, John Coltrane, Art Blakey, Sonny Rollins, and many others created this remarkable art form.

Curriculum

I am teaching since 2020, I've learned how important it is to give students a sense of freedom. They need to feel comfortable in order to start improving. I always begin the lesson by asking, "What kind of music do you like?" that's really important to me. My teaching method is based on adapting my knowledge to the student's aesthetic preferences and personal musical taste.
