About

Hello! My name is Christina Efthymiou, and I am a classical and contemporary flutist based in Cyprus. I hold a BMus (Hons) in Music Studies and an MMus in Flute Performance (Advanced Musical Studies) from Royal Holloway, University of London, where I studied under Carla Rees.

As a performer, I have played with ensembles such as the Cyprus Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Holloway Symphony Orchestra, as well as the Rarescale Flute Ensemble, with whom I performed internationally at the European Flute Ensemble Event in Poznan, Poland.

I have also collaborated with renowned artists including Cyprien Katsaris, Marios Frangoulis, Deborah Mayers, and Alkistis Protopsalti, and participated in workshops and masterclasses with Sir James Galway, William Bennett, Emily Beynon, and many more. My work extends into contemporary music and film, with recent collaborations including Oscar-nominated composer Nami Malumad and the Tippett Quartet.

For three years, I taught woodwind chamber music and music theory in the ΣymphoΠedia program of the Cyprus Youth Symphony Orchestra. During this time, I became the youngest teacher ever employed by the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra — an experience that deepened my passion for mentoring young musicians.

Instruments I play

  • Western concert C flute

  • Piccolo flute

  • Alto flute

  • Bass flute

  • Chinese Dizi flute

  • Baroque traverso

Teaching Style

I believe music lessons should be inspiring, supportive, and tailored to each student’s unique goals. Whether you are just beginning your journey on the flute, preparing for exams and auditions, or looking to expand into advanced repertoire and extended techniques, I will adapt my teaching style to help you grow.

My lessons integrate solid technical foundations with creativity, expression, and enjoyment of music.I also bring my experience from Erasmus+ programs, where I explored how technology can enrich music education.

My teaching style is a blend of structured guidance and creative exploration. I create a supportive environment where students feel encouraged to express themselves musically while developing a strong technical foundation. I balance discipline with enjoyment, ensuring that students not only improve their playing but also cultivate a lifelong love for music.

Each lesson is student-centered, meaning I adapt to the learner’s pace, interests, and personal goals! If you’re looking for lessons that combine technical precision with creativity and a love for music, I’d be delighted to work with you!

Curriculum

I believe in a holistic approach to flute study that combines technique, tone development, and expressive playing.

Beginners focus on posture, breathing, and tone production, while more advanced students work on articulation, phrasing, and extended techniques. I also encourage ensemble playing and the exploration of diverse repertoire, from Baroque to contemporary.

Depending on the student’s level, I recommend method books and repertoire pieces!
