About
I have a Bachelor's of Music degree from Carson-Newman University in Tennessee. During my time there, I was the principal flutist and graduated Magna cum Laude. Despite my degree being of a general music nature, I completed most of my coursework in music education. I also have a minor in communication arts.
I have taught private lessons at Gable Middle School and Dorman High School as well as leading sectionals there. I have taught students out of my home. I also have about two years of experience teaching ESL lessons online.
Teaching Style
I like to keep lessons lighthearted and fun while building the students' confidence and encouraging them to push themselves.
I am used to teaching students of all ages in flute, voice, beginning guitar, dance, and general music.
Curriculum
I usually have my students keep a notebook where we can track what they worked on during the lesson and what they will practice for the next lesson. I use scales, exercises, and breathing activities to strengthen the student's skills. We then focus on pieces that the student enjoys as well as ones that will help him or her progress to new levels.
