Polina De Carlo
About
I am a concert pianist and piano educator with over 25 years of international experience in performance and teaching across Europe and the United States. I hold a Diploma in Piano Performance (Master’s equivalent) from the Belarusian State Academy of Music (1992–1997), where I specialized in concert performance, chamber ensemble work, accompaniment, and piano pedagogy within the classical conservatory tradition.
As a performer, I have worked as an active concert pianist with a broad classical and crossover repertoire, appearing as both a soloist and chamber musician in a variety of professional settings. My performance background has been shaped through continuous work in Europe and the United States, where I have developed a strong focus on interpretation, technical control, and musical communication in live performance contexts.
Alongside my performance career, I have extensive teaching experience spanning private instruction, institutional work, and my role as Founder and Artistic Director of The Art of Piano in New York (2012–present). In this capacity, I have developed and led individualized piano training programs focused on long-term student development, preparing students for performances, auditions, competitions, and ABRSM examinations. My teaching background also includes institutional experience in the United States, where I worked within the Niskayuna Central School District (2002–2004), supporting classroom music education programs.
In addition, I have served as an adjudicator for piano competitions in the United States and have mentored students who have received regional and national awards. My teaching approach combines this professional experience with a structured, highly individualized method designed to help students develop strong technical foundations, musical understanding, and artistic confidence.
Teaching Style
My teaching is structured, detailed, and fully adapted to each student’s individual goals and level. I draw on over 25 years of international experience as a pianist and educator, combining conservatory-based training with practical performance and competition preparation.
A central part of my approach is developing efficient and disciplined practice habits. I guide students step by step through technical challenges, helping them understand how to practice effectively, solve problems independently, and build consistency in their playing. This includes focused work on technique, tone production, rhythm, phrasing, and musical interpretation.
I work with students of all levels, including beginners, advanced amateurs, and serious students preparing for auditions, competitions, and ABRSM examinations. Each lesson is carefully structured to ensure clear progress, with attention to both technical development and musical expression.
My goal is to help students become confident, independent musicians who understand how to approach the piano with clarity, discipline, and artistic awareness.
