About

I am Sergio José Campobasso, a lyric baritone born in Venezuela and trained in Italy, where I earned my degree in classical voice (Canto Lirico) from an Italian conservatory.

My operatic repertoire includes some of the most demanding baritone roles in the bel canto tradition: Figaro in Il Barbiere di Siviglia (Rossini), Count Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro (Mozart), Belcore in L’Elisir d’Amore (Donizetti), and Sir Riccardo Forth in I Puritani (Bellini).

I have performed on stage in Italy and bring real performance experience into every lesson. I teach in Spanish and Italian, which makes me particularly effective with students from Latin America and Spain who are studying the Italian operatic repertoire.

I am currently based between Italy and Lima, Perù, where I am attending an advanced vocal masterclass — a testament to my ongoing commitment to artistic growth.

Teaching Style

My teaching approach is patient, structured, and deeply rooted in the Italian bel canto tradition. I adapt to each student’s voice, goals, and level.

For beginners: I focus on breath support, posture, natural resonance and building confidence. No student is “too inexperienced” — every great singer started somewhere.

For intermediate students: We work on technique refinement, repertoire selection, interpretation, and stylistic awareness.

For advanced and pre-professional students: I offer coaching on operatic repertoire, audition preparation, and artistic expression.

Lessons are conducted in Spanish or Italian depending on the student’s preference.

Curriculum

I follow the principles of the Italian bel canto school, integrating breath management (appoggio), forward placement, and legato phrasing as foundational tools.

Recommended starting repertoire for beginners: Vaccai “Metodo Pratico di Canto”, Concone “50 Lezioni Op. 9”. Vaccaj

For intermediate and advanced students: arias and songs selected specifically for each voice type and artistic goal.
