About

I hold a Master of Music degree in Violin Performance from Oklahoma City University, where I graduated with Dean’s List Honors and Honor Graduate recognition. I also completed doctoral-level studies in Violin Performance at the University of Houston.

As an educator, I have taught orchestra, choir, classroom music, and violin in both China and the United States. Most recently, I served as an elementary orchestra and music teacher in Houston ISD, working with approximately 600 students from kindergarten through fourth grade.

In addition to classroom teaching, I provide private violin instruction for children, teenagers, and adults. My students study violin technique, musicianship, sight-reading, performance skills, and audition preparation through a personalized and goal-oriented approach.

Teaching Style

My teaching style combines structure, encouragement, and clear long-term progression.

In online lessons, I focus on building efficient practice habits, strong fundamentals, careful listening skills, and step-by-step technical development. Lessons are adapted to each student's level, personality, and goals, while maintaining a consistent learning structure that helps students stay motivated and make steady progress.

I believe effective music learning comes from a balance of technical training, musical expression, and active student engagement. I often incorporate rhythm training, guided practice strategies, music theory connections, and ensemble awareness into lessons to help students develop as complete musicians rather than simply learning pieces mechanically.

For younger students, I emphasize positive reinforcement, focus-building, and interactive learning approaches. For more advanced students, I provide support in interpretation, audition preparation, orchestra playing, and performance development.

Curriculum

My teaching approach combines traditional classical training with structured, student-centered learning strategies designed for both in-person and online instruction.

For beginning students, I focus on posture, tone production, rhythm development, listening skills, and healthy practice habits through carefully sequenced instruction and positive reinforcement. I often incorporate elements of the Suzuki approach, guided repetition, rhythm training, ear training, and interactive learning activities to help younger students build confidence and consistency.

As students advance, lessons become increasingly focused on technical development, musical interpretation, ensemble awareness, and independent practice skills. I emphasize scale systems, shifting, intonation, bow control, sight reading, and orchestral musicianship as essential long-term foundations.

Materials and methods may include:

• Suzuki Violin School
• Essential Elements for Strings
• String Basics
• Wohlfahrt Etudes
• Sevcik Technical Studies
• Kreutzer Etudes
• Scales and Arpeggio Systems
• Orchestra Excerpts
• Sight Reading Exercises
• Ear Training and Music Theory Integration
• Audition Preparation Strategies

For viola students, instruction includes alto clef reading, ensemble balance, tone development, and orchestral section skills appropriate for school orchestra and advancing ensemble participation.

Lessons are always adapted to the individual student's age, goals, learning style, and musical background.
