I completed TEFL certification from International TEFL Academy in 2025 and earned my Master’s degree from the University of Utah in 1997, where I published academically. I've spent 17 years in print and podcast media, writing/reporting, coordinating media relations, and handling post-production and podcast show-notes. For 12 years, I served as Senior Managing Editor of Minnesoa's Zenith News, where I received two first-place awards for investigative and science journalism. I currently teach English to Ukrainian students through ENGin and have 15 years experience mentoring writers.

I’ve been performing onstage since I was three years old. At age nine, I landed my first lead role as the cunning, manipulative, yet emotionally fragile Mary Tilford in Lillian Hellman’s The Children’s Hour.

Conversation, not conjugation
I teach conversational and Business Englishas a Second Language, using the Lexical and Audiolingual Methods. You will learn phrases in context and language patterns, through speaking and comprehension from our first lesson. No grammar drills, no lists of random vocabulary words. That's now people converse. You spoke your native language fluently before you ever had a grammar lesson.

Every audition is a chance to perform
I coach actors in audition preparation, character development, monologue and scene work, blocking, listening and reacting, vocal and physical performance, and stage presence to make authentic, creative choices that draw out your best performance.

All writing is storytelling
I mentor nonfiction writers working towards professional, journalistic, or academic publication. You will learn to interview sources, analyze research, conduct fact-checking, craft compelling stories, and refine your prose for clarity, structure, and readability. We can also transform your finished work into effective press releases, on-brand public relations material, and social media content.

I meet you where you are and tailor each lesson to the way you learn and what you want to accomplish. Progress comes from a combination of curiosity, practice, honest feedback, and encouragement.

Whether you're finding your voice in a new language, developing your voice as a writer, or discovering your voice onstage, I'll help you make it clearer, stronger, and authentically your own.

Making mistakes when learning a new language, stepping onstage to perform, or sharing your writing is a vulnerable moment, sometimes associated with a past trauma of showing your soft underbelly to someone who shamed you for it, to someone who didn't understand that mispronouncing a foreign word, singing off-key, or writing something that doesn't quite flow are necessary trial-and-error. We all learn best when we feel safe enough to risk maing the mistakes that are the compost from which success grows. 
 

English as a Second Language: Communication from Day One
I teach English as a Second Language to students of all levels, from total beginners through advanced speakers. Using a combination Lexical and Audiolingual Methods, I focus on time for you to practice speaking, listening comprehension, and learning language patterns (called "colocations"). 

Think of colocations like "chunks" of language, pieces that can be moved around to create a variety of sentences just with that one "chunk." For example, once you've learned the colocation, "I need to go..." you can add to it as your vocabulary expands: "I need to go to work," "I need to go to Robert's house," "I need to go to the bathroom," (always an important one!), and so on.

There is strong evidence that this method increases the speed of second language acquisition, the level of comprehension and spoken fluency, as well the student's enjoyment of language learning.

Writing: Find Your Voice and Strengthen Your Story
When working with writers, the most important place to begin is deciding what you want to say and to whom. For professional writing, this usually involves identifying potential publishers and writing a pitch. From there, we'll develop your ideas through research, interviewing, fact-checking, organization, sentence structure, clarity, and revision. I provide hands-on guidance while preserving your individual voice to turn your ideas and research into writing that is clear, compelling, and purposeful.

Acting: Make Bold, Authentic Choices
For actors, I create a supportive environment where you can experiment, take risks, and discover what makes your performance uniquely yours. We explore character, objectives, relationships, subtext, listening and reacting, movement, blocking, vocal and physical expression, timing, and stage presence. Whether you're preparing an audition, monologue, scene, or performance, I'll help you make specific, authentic choices rather than simply telling you how to "play" a character or "read" a line.
