Mine Malkoc
About
Mine Malkoc’s musical journey began at the age of five when she first discovered the piano, inspired by her father and older sister, both of whom were pianists. However, it didn’t take long for her true passion for music to lead her to the violin. She pursued her violin studies at the Hacettepe Ankara State Conservatory, where she was mentored by renowned professors such as Sarvar Ganiev, Togrul Ganiev, and Engin Eralp. Her love for the violin grew deeper, and she earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Violin Performance, marking the beginning of a new chapter in her musical career.
Determined to expand her horizons, Mine traveled to the Netherlands to study Violin Performance at the Rotterdam Music and Dance Academy ( Codarts Rotterdam), where she trained with the exceptional violin teacher Thijs Kramer.
After completing her studies abroad, Mine returned to Turkiye and was accepted into the Başkent University Academic Orchestra. In addition to performing with her orchestra, she had the privilege of playing with various orchestras, chamber music ensembles, and as a soloist, both in Turkey and internationally. Alongside her performance career, Mine began teaching, sharing her passion and expertise with the next generation of musicians. During this time, she earned her Master of Music (M.M.) in Violin Performance, studying under the mentorship of Professor Tunc Unver and Professor Orhan Ahiskal.
Mine has further developed her teaching by completing Suzuki Teacher Training, and she is now a proud member of the Suzuki Association of the Americas. This certification has further enriched her approach to teaching young violin students, blending technical training with the core principles of the Suzuki Method.
After years of experience in orchestral performance and teaching, Mine’s journey brought her to Medfield, MA, where she now lives with her husband and two daughters. She currently teaches at her private music studio in Medfield, where she inspires and supports her students on their musical journeys. Mine is deeply committed to sharing her passion for the violin and music, enriching the lives of her students.
Teaching Style
Since her university years, Mine has been dedicated to teaching students of all ages, from young beginners to adults, helping them prepare for certificates, auditions, orchestras, and music school exams. Her teaching approach is individualized, tailored to each student’s learning style, pace, and goals. She fosters a supportive yet challenging environment that encourages growth.
A central focus of her teaching is helping students feel both physically and mentally at ease with the instrument by developing strong technical foundations from the very first lesson. When students play with freedom and control, they gain the confidence to express themselves with musicality and authenticity.
Her goal is to equip students with the tools to express themselves freely and enjoy a lifelong journey of music-making. She teaches to a high standard at all levels, believing that even beginners can learn to play with a beautiful tone, healthy posture, and a solid sense of rhythm and pitch.
Through their music studies, students develop essential life skills such as concentration, the ability to identify and work through challenges, performance skills, and perseverance.
In addition to technical development, she encourages students to:
- Explore music beyond the notes and become familiar with classical music culture
- Cultivate independent thinking
- Develop problem-solving skills
- Learn how to practice effectively
Curriculum
My teaching focuses on developing a solid technical foundation with a clear and structured progression, so students can build their skills naturally and play with comfort, ease, and confidence.
In my lessons, I regularly use Suzuki Violin School, Essential Elements for Violin, and Introducing the Positions, along with RCM and ABRSM materials. For technical development, I incorporate etudes from Dancla, Dont, Kayser, Mazas, Kreutzer, Wohlfahrt, and Sevcik, depending on the student’s level and progress. Alongside these materials, I also include short pieces as well as standard violin repertoire, including sonatas and concertos.
