About

My name is Ian McLaughlin and I am a percussionist, conductor, and music educator. I am humbled to share that I have performed alongside various ensembles across the United States. I have instructed Kindergarten classrooms, middle school beginning band, high school percussion ensemble, collegiate mixed instrument ensembles, and a state champion marching band drumline. Music is a true passion in my life. I enjoy performing in any way that I am able. Though a true passion is getting to help others learn and hone their own craft. I hope that we can take the time to appreciate music and learn it together.

Teaching Style

As a performer and educator I have had the pleasure of several great achievements. I was part of the percussion studio at SUNY Fredonia, which helped me to study percussion and world music such as African drumming. I later pursued conducting at West Chester University of Pennsylvania, where I continued to perform in high level ensembles as a percussionist. Following my studies, I taught lessons privately for piano, snare drum, drumset, guitar, electric bass, trumpet, flute, saxophone, and clarinet to students ages 3 through 86. I have been working full time as a music teacher for the past 6 years in a school district. During my time I have taught general music for grades K-8, beginning 6th grade band, high school percussion ensemble, and the drumline for the district's state championship marching band. I have recently had the pleasure of also directing the instrumental ensemble for St. Joseph's University, and have performed in the Long Island Wind Ensemble.

I enjoy teaching music, no matter the age.
