Michael Weisskircher
About
I am a music producer, audio engineer, musician, and educator with over 15 years of experience in music, sound, recording, performance, and teaching.
I hold a Master of Arts in Sound Studies from the University of the Arts Berlin (Universität der Künste Berlin), completed in 2016. Prior to that, I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Popular Music and Media from the University of Paderborn in 2013. I also completed the Audio Engineering Diploma program at SAE Institute Cologne in 2008, where I received professional training in recording, mixing, studio technology, and music production.
My professional experience spans music production, audio engineering, live performance, orchestral management, and audio branding. I worked as a music producer at Tritone Studios in Trier, where I was involved in recording and producing music projects. In Berlin, I worked for the audio branding agency Why Do Birds, contributing to sonic branding and audio production projects for commercial clients. I also served as Orchestra Manager (Orchesterinspektor) for the Brandenburg State Orchestra (Brandenburger Philharmoniker), coordinating musicians, rehearsals, and concert operations. In addition, I worked as a sound engineer for the German Film Orchestra Babelsberg (Deutsches Filmorchester Babelsberg), supporting professional recording and performance productions.
As a performing musician, I have played bass guitar in various ensembles and bands. These include the jazz ensemble Groove Connection in Trier and the funk band Bowtie in Paderborn, performing a diverse repertoire and gaining extensive experience in ensemble playing, improvisation, and live performance.
My teaching experience includes working as a music teacher in 2019 at Hans-Grade-Schule and Refik-Veseli-Schule in Berlin. In addition, I have taught private students in music theory, harmony, ear training, piano, bass guitar, and music production. I work with beginners as well as more advanced students and adapt lessons to each student’s goals, interests, and learning style.
My lessons combine structured learning with practical application. Students can learn music production, recording, mixing, sound design, music theory, harmony, rhythm, notation, ear training, piano, or bass guitar. I believe that the most effective learning happens when theory is directly connected to real musical practice. My goal is to help students build strong technical foundations, develop musical confidence, and discover their own creative voice.
Teaching Style
My teaching focuses on helping students develop both technical skills and musical understanding in an integrated way. Rather than treating production as a purely technical process, I emphasize the connection between sound, composition, and artistic intention. This means we work not only on “how things work” in a DAW, but also on “why they work” in a musical context.
Curriculum
My teaching approach combines academic knowledge, professional industry experience, and practical music-making. Having worked as a music producer, audio engineer, performing musician, and music teacher, I focus on helping students develop both technical skills and creative confidence.
Every lesson is tailored to the individual student’s goals, experience level, and preferred learning style. Whether a student wants to learn music production, music theory, piano, bass guitar, or prepare for school examinations, lessons are designed to provide a clear structure while remaining flexible and engaging.
I believe that students learn most effectively through practical application. Rather than teaching concepts in isolation, I integrate theory directly into musical projects and real-world examples. Music theory topics such as notation, rhythm, harmony, chord progressions, ear training, and musical analysis are taught through listening, playing, composing, and problem-solving exercises. This helps students understand not only what works in music, but why it works.
For music production students, lessons may include recording techniques, DAW workflow, arrangement, sound design, editing, mixing, and creative production methods. Students are encouraged to work on their own projects whenever possible, allowing them to immediately apply new concepts and build a portfolio of original work.
For piano and bass students, I emphasize good technique, musical expression, rhythm, and developing a solid foundation that supports long-term progress. Lessons are paced according to the student’s needs, ensuring that learning remains motivating and enjoyable.
I provide customized lesson materials, exercises, listening recommendations, and practice strategies. My goal is to create a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, experimenting creatively, and steadily building their skills as musicians.
