About
Hello and welcome!
I have been teaching music full-time for more than 25 years. I have started and joined hundreds of students of all ages (5 to 75!) on their musical journey and have enjoyed every moment! I teach piano, clarinet, electronic keyboard, and music theory in Western Classical, Jazz, and Popular styles.
In my teaching career I have taught privately as well as at music education institutions, but since moving to the beautiful Garden Route a few years ago I've mostly been teaching online with a 5-star review rating. I am enthusiastic, patient, and I strive to make lessons a joy. Whether you are preparing for an examination (ABRSM, TCL, etc.), recitals, competitions, or just playing for fun, we can make it happen!
I have a Diploma in Music from Tshwane University of Technology in Pretoria, South Africa. I've played in several bands and orchestras, and I am currently a member of the Carpe Musicam! Orchestra in the Garden Route, as well as the Carpe Musicam! Pops Band, performing regularly throughout the year.
I have a great love for Music Theory and have written a series of Music Theory lesson books (Theory Fun Exercise Books for Beginners / Teorie Pret-werkboeke vir Beginners) aimed at children. These books are sold at music shops throughout South Africa and I'm constantly working on expanding the series.
Anyone can learn to play an instrument and you are never to old to start your musical journey.
Teaching Style
I am enthusiastic and patient and get excited about a student's progress!
I have taught hundreds of students, and this has helped my ability to adapt to the needs of an individual student. I focus on technique, aural skills, sight-reading, and especially performance.
I have not only prepared students for exams, recitals, and competitions but have been an adjudicator at several competitions, including The Alberton Eisteddfod, Centurion Arts Festival, and Heidelberg Eisteddfod.
