Sarah Boink
About
Sarah Boink is a New York–based fiber artist and educator whose work focuses on tapestry weaving with hand-spun, sustainable fibers. She is the founder of Sizz Handmade, where she creates contemporary tapestry work and weaving education rooted in material awareness, place, and environmental responsibility.
Sarah holds a BFA from SUNY Purchase with a background in painting, sculpture, and the mediated image, which informs her approach to tapestry design and composition. Her work has been exhibited regionally, including at Cornell University and Union College, and is held in the permanent collection of the Albany Institute of History & Art. She is deeply interested in creative placemaking and community-engaged fiber projects that use textiles to foster connection and storytelling.
Sarah has over a decade of experience teaching fiber arts to adult learners in both in-person and online formats. She teaches introductory tapestry weaving, covering loom setup, cartoon development, discontinuous weft techniques, color blending, and finishing, with an emphasis on working thoughtfully with hand-spun fibers.
Her teaching includes online and kit-based workshops, as well as sold-out online weaving classes developed in partnership with Darn Good Yarn, featuring original designs and instructional videos. Her online teaching style is clear, supportive, and highly visual, helping students understand the expressive qualities of hand-spun yarns and build confidence in their own creative voice.
