About
I have been teaching violin for over 30 years, beginning my teaching career at the age of 16. Throughout my career, I have worked with more than 5,000 students through private instruction, group classes, school enrichment programs, and community music education.
While completing my Graduate Performance Diploma at the Peabody Conservatory of Music, I served as the teaching assistant to my professor, Herbert Greenberg, former Concertmaster of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. This invaluable experience allowed me to work closely with developing violinists while learning from one of the world's great pedagogues.
I later founded Red Rabbit School of Music in New York City, a strings and woodwinds education program that partnered with both public and private schools to provide private lessons and group classes for thousands of children between the ages of 4 and 14. One of my greatest passions was bringing high-quality music education to students who might not otherwise have access to private instruction, particularly in underserved communities.
Today, I teach private students online and in person, working with children, teens, adults, beginners, returning players, and advanced musicians. Whether a student's goal is to play for personal enjoyment, prepare for auditions, or pursue music at a high level, I strive to help every student reach their fullest potential while developing a lifelong love of music.
Teaching Style
Every student learns differently, so I believe lessons should be personalized to the individual rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach.
My teaching combines warmth, encouragement, and high standards. I create a positive environment where students feel supported while being challenged to continually grow. Technical excellence is always balanced with creativity, musical expression, and confidence.
Lessons focus on developing beautiful tone, strong intonation, relaxed technique, musical phrasing, rhythm, and effective practice habits. As students progress, we also work on performance skills, stage confidence, and learning how to practice independently.
I believe that learning music should be joyful while maintaining a strong classical foundation. Although students are welcome to explore popular, film, or contemporary music as part of their lessons, my primary focus is helping students develop excellent classical technique, as this provides the foundation to successfully perform any style of music throughout their lives.
Curriculum
My teaching is rooted in both the Suzuki philosophy and traditional conservatory training.
For younger students, I incorporate the Suzuki Method, emphasizing careful listening, memory development, beautiful tone, and strong musical fundamentals from the very beginning. Alongside Suzuki, students develop solid reading skills, music theory, rhythm, scales, and technical exercises appropriate for their level.
Common beginner and intermediate materials include:
• Suzuki Violin School (Books 1-10)
• Essential Elements for Strings
• String Builder by Samuel Applebaum
• Wohlfahrt Etudes
• Schradieck School of Violin Technics
• Sevcik Studies
• Kayser Etudes
For advancing students, instruction expands into traditional conservatory repertoire and technical studies, including:
• Galamian Scale System
• Dont Etudes
• Kreutzer Etudes
• Rode Caprices
• Gavinies Etudes
• Bach Sonatas and Partitas
• Mozart Concertos
• Bruch, Mendelssohn, Lalo, Saint-Saëns, Sibelius, and other standard concerto repertoire.
While I enjoy incorporating popular music or student-requested pieces to keep lessons engaging and motivating, I believe that a strong classical education provides the technical and musical foundation that allows students to confidently perform any genre of music throughout their lives.
