Ricky Binta
About
Hi, I'm Ricky Binta, a professional guitarist and instructor with a formal musical foundation developed at Yamaha Music Indonesia (2003 - 2006). With teaching experience dating back to 2008, I have taught over 400 students across various ages and skill levels, focusing on intermediate to advanced techniques, improvisation, phrasing, and music theory. My formal teaching journey includes serving as an instructor at Chic's Musik Pekanbaru (2008-2012) and Yamaha Musik Pekanbaru (2012-2021). Currently, I teach at Chic's Musik Jakarta and work as a private instructor, designing tailored daily and weekly practice curricula to help students pass music examinations and perform confidently on stage.
Beyond teaching, I am an active performer, songwriter, and session player for national musicians in both live and recording environments. I am the lead guitarist for the band The Morbius, having released a full-length album in 2025 and returned to the studio in February 2026 to record our newest project. I also work extensively in music production using Logic Pro 11, recently handling the production and release planning for a collaborative track featuring artists Madeena and Jagawana in January 2026.
As a professional, I am proud to hold official endorsements from Enya Guitar, Valeton (including the GP-200 and GP-5), Crafter Guitar (Modern Sera), and M-VAVE. Whether you are looking to master technical playing, shredding, or dive deep into harmony and song production, I am ready to guide your musical journey.
Teaching Style
My Teaching Approach My teaching style is analytical, direct, and highly results-driven. I specialize in helping intermediate and advanced guitarists break through their technical plateaus. I don't just teach you how to play songs; I audit your fretboard mechanics.
Depending on your goals, our sessions will focus on:
-
Advanced Fretboard Mechanics: Perfecting picking synchronization, sweeping, and fluid legato lines.
-
Improvisation & Phrasing: Moving beyond the standard pentatonic box by understanding chord-scales, modes, and how to comfortably play "outside" the changes in a Fusion context.
-
Technique Auditing: Identifying and correcting the micro-flaws in your hand posture that are restricting your speed and tone
Curriculum
My Teaching Method: I do not use a "one-size-fits-all" approach. Because I primarily work with intermediate to advanced guitarists who are trying to break through specific plateaus, my method is highly customized.
Every new student starts with a baseline evaluation where I audit your physical technique, fretboard knowledge, and phrasing. From there, I create a personalized roadmap. During our live sessions, we isolate your specific mechanical issues, drill them at slow tempos, and then immediately apply them over musical contexts so you are actually making music, not just playing robotic exercises. I also utilize my digital audio workstation to loop sections, analyze your timing, and demonstrate concepts with extreme clarity.
Recommended Student Texts & Materials: You are not required to purchase any standard method books prior to our lessons. I build and provide all the necessary study materials directly to my students. Depending on our lesson focus, I will provide:
-
Custom-transcribed Guitar Pro files and PDF tabs.
-
High-quality backing tracks for improvisation and phrasing practice.
-
Specific scale, mode, and arpeggio fingering charts.
-
Custom exercises designed specifically to fix your technical flaws.
