Nick Budov
About
I am a musician and sound designer with experience in guitar, bass, synthesizers, harmonica, composition, and music production. I enjoy helping others discover their own musical voice by sharing practical knowledge, encouraging creativity, and guiding students through challenges — whether they want to learn an instrument, create music, or explore sound.
My musical journey began at Kharkiv Music School №15, where I studied guitar and piano and graduated in 2004. Since then, I have continued developing as a multi-instrumentalist, learning harmonica, drums, synthesizers, and music production while participating in various musical projects. One of my early bands was Four Sticks (Kharkiv), where I composed much of the band's original material and helped shape its musical direction.
For around 7 years, I worked as a session musician both online and in-person, recording and performing guitar, harmonica, and other instruments for different projects. I also gained live performance experience through touring, organizing concerts, and contributing to the creative direction of performances and recording sessions. During this time, I began teaching privately, helping beginners and young musicians develop their skills in guitar, harmonica, and basic music production.
I hold an Engineer’s Degree in Computer Science from Kharkiv National University of Radioelectronics (2011), which strengthened my analytical thinking and problem-solving approach. Combining creativity with technology eventually led me into game audio and sound design, where I have been working professionally as a Sound Designer and Composer (Gorillaz OÜ - 2022-2024 and Comet Space 2024-2025 in Ukraine, Kyiv) creating music, sound effects, and interactive audio experiences for games.
Teaching Style
My teaching style is highly practical, collaborative, and tailored entirely to your goals.
Having spent over 15 years as a touring musician, session player, and studio producer, I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all methods or dry music theory. Instead, I focus on real-world skills.
In our lessons, you will learn through the music you actually love. I approach teaching like a personal trainer: building your technical foundations, sharpening your ear, helping you with difficulties you encounter along the way, and giving you the exact tools you need to jam confidently with other musicians, perform live, or record your own tracks.
Curriculum
Techniques and teaching methods: I adapt my teaching to each student’s needs, combining practical exercises, theory, and creative experimentation. My approach focuses on developing both technical skills and musical expression, encouraging students to explore their instrument(s) and sounds actively.
Structure of a typical lesson: Each lesson begins with a warm-up and review of previous material, followed by targeted exercises, technique development, and repertoire or improvisation work. Lessons end with a short summary and assignments for practice between sessions.
Didactic specifics: I incorporate real-world examples from music production and sound design, helping students understand how their instrument or voice fits into broader musical contexts. Lessons can include recording, arranging, and experimenting with sounds to connect theory with practice.
