About

I am a dedicated musician and educator with a passion for helping students grow through both performance and thoughtful instruction. I began my collegiate studies at the University of Arkansas from 2017 to 2020, where I earned the Outstanding Composer Award in Spring 2019 and served as Song Leader and Pianist for the Alpha Omicron chapter of Phi Mu Alpha. I completed my Bachelor of Arts in Music, with concentrations in piano and euphonium, at Oklahoma State University in 2024, graduating Magna Cum Laude. While at OSU I continued my involvement as Song Leader, Pianist, and Secretary of the Delta Tau chapter of Phi Mu Alpha and served as Vice President of the campus chapter of the National Association for Music Education. My musical foundation was built earlier at Owasso High School, where I received the John Philip Sousa Award, was named Outstanding Bandsman for the State of Oklahoma, and earned All-State recognition on euphonium three times.

Throughout college I gained extensive practical experience as a collaborative pianist, accompanying students every semester for recitals and juries at both the University of Arkansas and Oklahoma State University. I also performed with the University of Arkansas Wind Ensemble, led rehearsals and provided piano accompaniment for Phi Mu Alpha, and reached the semifinals of the Leonard Falcone International Euphonium Competition in 2018.

Since completing my degree I have taught mathematics for two years at Nathan Hale Middle School in Tulsa while continuing to share my love of music through private instruction. I taught piano to fellow college students for six years and, after graduation, have maintained an independent studio for two years, offering lessons both in person and online. I look forward to working with new students and supporting their musical development in a supportive, engaging environment.

Teaching Style

My goal as a piano teacher is to help students develop both the skills and confidence they need to enjoy music for a lifetime. I want students to not only learn how to play the notes, but also understand the musical ideas behind them and develop a deeper appreciation for the art of music.

I strive to create a supportive and encouraging learning environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes, asking questions, and challenging themselves. Every student has different goals and learning styles, so I tailor my approach to meet each individual where they are and help them make meaningful progress.

For beginners, my goal is to establish a strong foundation in technique, music reading, rhythm, and musical expression. For more advanced students, I focus on refining their skills, developing interpretation, preparing for performances, and helping them reach their personal musical goals.

Ultimately, I want my students to leave each lesson feeling accomplished, motivated, and excited to continue their musical journey.

Curriculum

My teaching method combines a strong foundation in technique, music reading, theory, and musical expression while adapting lessons to each student's individual goals and learning style.

For beginning and developing pianists, I often use the Piano Adventures series by Faber as a core method book. This series provides a well-rounded approach by building skills in note reading, rhythm, technique, improvisation, and musical understanding. I supplement the method books with additional repertoire, exercises, and activities based on each student's interests and abilities.

I believe that students learn best when they understand not only how to play a piece, but also why the music works the way it does. My lessons focus on developing strong fundamentals while encouraging creativity, confidence, and a genuine enjoyment of music.

For students preparing for performances, recitals, or personal musical goals, I select repertoire and exercises that help them grow as musicians while keeping lessons engaging and rewarding.
