Delaram Farahani

Hello! My name is Delaram Farahani, and I am an oud player and music educator from Iran with over 10 years of experience performing and studying music. I specialize in teaching oud through a combination of traditional Iranian and Middle Eastern musical approaches, while also helping students develop strong technique, musicality, and confidence.

My musical education has included formal studies in music as well as training with respected musicians and teachers, including Najmeh Saghir, Hamid Khansari, Hojjat Farajian, and Turkish oud master Yurdal Tokcan. I have participated in masterclasses, performed with the Paytakht Orchestra, collaborated on music recording projects, and received third place at the 15th National Youth Music Festival.

Alongside my performing experience, I have taught oud to students at Shamim Music School and have experience teaching online. I enjoy working with beginners as well as intermediate students who want to improve their technique, expand their repertoire, strengthen their musical understanding, or explore Iranian and Middle Eastern musical traditions. My goal is to make learning the oud both structured and enjoyable while helping every student develop their own musical voice.

My teaching style is supportive, patient, structured, and student-centered. I believe that every student has different goals, musical interests, learning preferences, and strengths, so I adapt each lesson to the individual rather than following exactly the same path for everyone.

For beginners, I focus on building a comfortable and correct foundation. We work step by step on holding the oud, right- and left-hand technique, basic rhythms, note recognition, ear training, and simple melodies. I explain concepts clearly and break challenging techniques into manageable exercises so that students can progress without feeling overwhelmed.

For intermediate and advanced students, lessons may include improving speed and articulation, developing musical expression, learning traditional repertoire, exploring maqam and Iranian musical concepts, strengthening improvisation skills, and preparing for performances. I also help students build effective practice habits so they can make steady progress between lessons.

My lessons are interactive and encouraging. I demonstrate techniques, listen carefully to each student, provide clear feedback, and adjust the pace according to the student’s progress. Whether you are learning the oud for personal enjoyment, cultural connection, musical exploration, or performance, I will help you develop both technical confidence and musical expression.
