Alyssa Hoover

Greetings musical friends! I have been enjoying playing the violin since I was 7 years old. I grew up playing in the Oceanside School District Orchestras as well as in the Civic Youth Orchestra at Palomar College while I was in high school. I have learned several instruments over the years. However, Violin is my favorite. I call it my heart instrument. I began teaching kids younger than me when I was a junior in high school and I found that I enjoyed sharing the love of the violin, and so I enrolled at Palomar College as a Music Major in 2005. I attended college for 2 years while also taking on more students of all ages and building my own business called Prescott-Phifer Music Lessons, Sales and Rentals where I taught Violin, piano, cello, viola and classical guitar. Teaching is an art in itself and I have taught students from ages 2-77 years old! I have experience teaching for over 20 years. My son, who is 14 years old now, began learning the piano and violin before he even turned 2 years old. In addition, I have taught many levels of learning. I have experience teaching students on the spectrum as well. Although, I teach a variety of instruments I am focusing on teaching the violin since that is what brings me the greatest joy! 

I have taught as one of the main teachers in the North County area of San Diego for many years, traveling to students homes as well as hosting at my own home. I have taught with many music schools and music studios over the years. Giacoletti Music, School of Rock, Conservatory for Music and Arts and Coastal Music, some of which I help get established in the local area,  just to name only a few. I have been a violinist in the Palomar Community Orchestra as well as conducted various youth orchestras over the years, one of which was Rennaissance School of Music. I have done much volunteering and working for the Elementry and middle schools in their orchestras as well as in the dramatic arts of musical theatre. I am well known with the local music teachers for the school districts since I have remained in contact over the years and many of them taught me! I am honored to serve the community and keep the music alive, sharing and passing on what was shared with me as a pupil of these honorable musicians.

My style of teaching is from a no stress approach. I have experience being in the position of learning a new skill and a new instrument and I know how it feels to take that courageous leap of faith in yourself and allow yourself to be vulnerable. I have had experience learning from quite the variety of teaching styles my first 15 years of learning. Some of those teachers were quite strict and scary when I was a kid. Well, needless to say, I did not give up. I am glad I experienced that so that you don't have to! I do not want any of my students to feel stressed or discouraged. Learning is a sacred time and I highly honor, recognize and respect your willingness to accept the challenge of learning an instrument. And not any instrument, the Violin! Congratulations! You are embarking on a remarkable time of your life! No stress. Just fun. Every moment is a success! 

Over the years, I always understood that teaching is an art in itself, and I have worked with a wide variety of students of all ages and approaches to learning. Some students are tactile learners, some verbal, others auditory, visual and so on and so forth. I tailor our lessons to meet your needs and ease of learning.
