Bradley Overton
About
Hi, I'm Brad, a professional guitar teacher with more than 30 years of playing experience and over 20 years of teaching experience. I have been teaching private one-to-one guitar lessons from my home studio in the UK since 2005, working with children, teenagers and adults at all levels, from complete beginners through to more experienced players and students preparing for graded music examinations. I specialise in helping students develop strong foundations, improve their technique and musicianship, learn the music they enjoy and become more confident guitarists.
I hold a BA (Hons) in Music Technology from De Montfort University in Leicester, completed in 2008. I continued my professional music studies with the University of West London, attaining a DipLCM Diploma in Music Performance in 2018, followed by an LLCM Licentiate Diploma in Music Performance in 2019. These qualifications have supported my development both as a musician and as an experienced guitar educator.
In 2020, I was approved as a music examiner for RSL Awards, and I continue to serve on their examiner panel. Through this role, I assess musicians undertaking graded examinations, evaluating areas including technical ability, musical accuracy, stylistic awareness and performance. Combined with more than two decades of one-to-one teaching, this experience allows me to offer structured and supportive tuition whether you want to learn guitar for enjoyment, play your favourite songs, improve your technique and musicianship, or work towards graded examinations.
Teaching Style
My teaching style is friendly, patient and highly structured. I believe students make the best progress when lessons are enjoyable, relaxed and tailored to their individual goals.
I break complex techniques down into simple, manageable steps, ensuring every student understands what they're learning and why. Each lesson includes clear objectives, practical exercises and personalised feedback, so you'll always know what to focus on between lessons.
Whether your goal is to play for fun, learn your favourite songs, improve your technique, prepare for graded exams or become a more confident musician, I'll create a lesson plan that helps you achieve steady, measurable progress while keeping learning enjoyable.
Curriculum
Every lesson is tailored to the individual student. In our first lesson, we'll discuss your experience, musical interests and goals before creating a structured learning plan.
Lessons may include chords, rhythm, lead guitar, technique, scales, improvisation, fretboard knowledge, ear training and music theory, depending on your objectives.
For students taking RSL Awards exams, I use the official syllabus and supporting materials. For everyone else, I provide personalised exercises, TAB, notation and practice resources to help you make steady, measurable progress.
My aim is for every student to leave each lesson knowing exactly what to practise and how to continue improving.
