Juan Diego Merchán

Hi, I'm Juan Diego Merchán, a Colombian musician, music educator, and founder of Seven Keys School, an online and in-person music academy established in 2020. I have more than 15 years of teaching experience, working with children, teenagers, and adults in both schools and private instruction.

I hold a Technical Diploma in Music from the Francisco Cristancho Musical Workshop (Bogotá, 2010) and a Bachelor's Degree in Religious Sciences from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana (2019). From 2013 to 2020, I was the lead music teacher at Gimnasio Fontana, where I developed innovative music literacy methods for preschool students and received the school's 2016–2017 Teacher Award for my educational project on introducing music reading at an early age.

As a performer and composer, I recorded the original album "A Dónde Vas," featuring twelve original compositions available on major streaming platforms. My teaching focuses on Colombian/Venezuelan llanera harp, piano, guitar, ukulele, and music fundamentals, combining traditional repertoire, ear training, technique, rhythm, and practical musicianship. My teaching style is patient, structured, and highly personalised. Every lesson is tailored to your experience, learning pace, and musical goals, creating a relaxed environment where you can develop confidence and enjoy the learning process.

I combine traditional llanera repertoire with practical technique, helping students build solid foundations in posture, hand coordination, rhythm, melody, accompaniment, and improvisation. My lessons also include ear training, musical expression, and a clear step-by-step practice plan so that every session leads to measurable progress.

Drawing on more than 15 years of teaching experience, I adapt my methods to each student's learning style. Whether you are a complete beginner, a returning musician, or an experienced player looking to refine your technique, I will guide you with clear explanations, practical exercises, and continuous encouragement. I can teach by ear, with written music, or by combining both approaches according to your preferences.
