About

I am a composer, orchestrator, and pianist with a background in film scoring and media composition, as well as concert music. I have a BMus in Film Scoring from the Berklee College of Music, specialising in film scoring and media composition, and have experience writing for both orchestral and smaller ensembles.

I also have an MMus Composition from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.

I currently work as a composer's assistant to Jordan Jinosko, as well as provide orchestration, arrangement, music prep and transcription services to Overture Global Entertainment for their live film concerts.

My own compositional work is strongly focused on orchestration, musical structure, harmony, and storytelling through music. I am particularly interested in the relationship between musical ideas and the larger structure of a piece, and I encourage students to think about composition not simply as writing notes, but as developing an idea with intention and direction.

In composition lessons, I can help students develop their own musical ideas from the initial concept through to a finished, fully notated score. Topics can include melody, harmony, counterpoint, form, thematic development, instrumentation, orchestration, arranging, notation, and developing a distinctive musical language. I can also work with students interested in film, television, games, and other forms of media composition.

For orchestration, I focus on understanding the individual character and capabilities of instruments, effective instrumental combinations, balance, colour, register, texture, voicing, and how to translate a musical idea into an effective ensemble or orchestral score. I can also help students improve existing orchestrations and understand why certain orchestral choices work better than others.

Teaching Style

My teaching is practical and project-based. Rather than imposing a particular compositional style, I aim to help each student understand their own musical ideas and learn the techniques needed to realise them effectively. Whether a student is developing their first orchestral piece, preparing a portfolio for university, writing for film or games, or looking to refine advanced orchestration and composition skills, I tailor lessons around their individual goals and current level.
