Marko Miletić

I am a Full Professor of Cello at the Academy of Arts, University of Novi Sad, an active concert cellist, and Artistic Director of Camerata Novi Sad and NEO Festival.

I completed my Bachelor’s and Master’s studies at the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad with Imre Kalman and Ištvan Warga, and subsequently earned an Artist Diploma in the United States, studying with renowned cellist and pedagogue Wendy Warner. As a soloist and chamber musician, I have performed throughout Europe, China and the United States and collaborated with internationally renowned artists including Stefan Milenković, Roman Simović, Wendy Warner, István Varga, Benjamin Schmid, Alexander Sitkovetsky, Robert Lakatoš, Claudio Vandelli...I have given masterclasses in Serbia, Italy, Poland and the United States and served as a jury member at international music competitions, including the Khachaturian International Competition in Beijing.

Teaching has always been a central part of my professional life. My students have won prizes at international competitions, reached major international competition stages and continued their studies at leading European music institutions and cello studios in Berlin, Salzburg, Graz and Rome. Among them, Irena Josifoska became a semifinalist at the Queen Elisabeth Competition and subsequently continued her studies with Jens Peter Maintz in Berlin. My students have also successfully auditioned for professional orchestral positions.

My approach to teaching is based on the idea that technique and musical expression should never be separated. Technical development always has a musical purpose, whether we are working on sound production, intonation, bow technique, left-hand organization, physical freedom or a specific technical challenge in the repertoire.

I place particular emphasis on developing an individual musical voice. I do not believe in creating copies of a teacher or imposing a single interpretation. Instead, I help students understand the score, recognize their own strengths, overcome technical limitations and develop interpretations that are stylistically informed, personal and convincing.

With advanced students, I also work extensively on performance preparation: how to structure the preparation process, perform reliably under pressure and present oneself convincingly at auditions, competitions, recitals and other important performances. Lessons are adapted to the individual student, their current level and their specific artistic and professional goals.
