Calvin Tsang
About
Calvin Tsang is a violin teacher with professional teaching experience over a span of 20+ years, accepting new students age 6+ at any level for online violin lessons. He has taught at several music studios in the greater Dallas and Toronto areas. In Dallas, he was also a private lesson instructor in various middle and high schools, and held demonstration and teaching clinics during orchestra classes. Throughout his career, he also taught his own private students, including online since the pandemic.
As a professional violinist, he had the honor to perform in concert halls alongside classical music superstars James Ehnes (twice), JOSHUA BELL (multiple), LANG-LANG (twice), Kerson Leong (twice), Timothy Chooi, Karen Gomyo, Leila Josefowicz, & Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg. Starting lessons at age of 8 with Suzuki method, he quickly garnered awards/honors, including Concerto winner & soloist with Austin Symphony at just age 14, 1st place in All-State (3-TIMES)/All-Region orchestra auditions (Concertmaster of Texas All-State Symphony Orchestra only as a high school freshman), and winner in Texas French Symposium music categories in same year. After completing Bachelor/Master degrees in Violin Performance at Northwestern University, he performed with various renowned orchestras including San Diego Symphony, Charlotte Symphony, Buffalo Philharmonic, Columbus (OH) Symphony, Virginia Symphony and Des Moines Metro Opera.
Teaching Style
"Mr. Tsang is a very experienced teacher. He knows how to improve your kid's violin skills quickly. He always gives praising to my daughter, which encourages her a lot." - G. Y.
"Hi Calvin, Thanks for your good effort teaching [my son], he progressed a lot...Calvin is a very patient and gentle teacher. He knows how to inspire young kids to love music..." J.Y.
Calvin's students learn how to practice music/violin effectively. Through his unique methodology, his talented young student progressed and memorized songs all the way to Suzuki Book 4 in less than 2 years of starting virtual lessons as a complete beginner.
Curriculum
His TIME-TESTED unique learning methods are applied during the lessons, customized for each student, in the context of Suzuki and traditional curriculum, increasing student's efficiency in learning and personal motivation for improvement.
Music books and curriculum would be recommended on a case-by-case basis following the 1st lesson, but Suzuki and various etude books corresponding to the student's level are typical.
