About

Hi! I’m Matías, a professional pianist and historical keyboard player from Mexico, currently based in the Netherlands.

I have been playing and studying piano for many years, and my musical journey has taken me from the modern piano to historical instruments such as the fortepiano. I studied modern piano at the Utrecht Conservatorium with Klára Würtz and fortepiano with Artem Belogurov, and I recently completed a Master’s degree in Historical Keyboards at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, where I studied with Olga Pashchenko.

As a performer, I have had the opportunity to play in venues and festivals such as the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, TivoliVredenburg, the Mozarteum Summer Academy in Salzburg, the Grachtenfestival, and the Early Music Festival Utrecht, as well as prestigious venues in Mexico.

But for me, music is not only about performing — it is also about sharing the joy of playing the piano. In my lessons, I like to adapt to each student’s goals, interests and level. Whether you are starting from scratch, want to improve your technique and musicality, would like to learn classical repertoire, or simply want to play the music you love, I can help you build a solid foundation while keeping the lessons enjoyable and motivating.

I believe that learning piano should be both rewarding and fun. So, if you are looking for a friendly, experienced teacher who can help you develop your skills while discovering your own musical voice, I’d be happy to work with you!

Teaching Style

My teaching style is relaxed, friendly and personalized. I adapt each lesson to the student’s level, goals and interests rather than following a one-size-fits-all method.

I like to combine practical playing with technique, musicality and understanding of the music and the history of it. We can work on classical repertoire, your favorite songs, improvisation, music theory, or simply explore interesting stories and ideas about music.

My goal is for you to feel comfortable, make progress and, most importantly, enjoy playing the piano.

Curriculum

I don’t follow one fixed method, as I believe lessons should be adapted to each student. I combine technical exercises, repertoire, sight-reading, ear training and music theory depending on the student’s level and goals.

For beginners, I usually recommend starting with a beginner-friendly piano method book, complemented with pieces that the student actually enjoys playing. For more advanced students, I select repertoire according to their interests and level, and we work on technique, interpretation, musical style and performance.

I can also recommend specific books, scores and listening materials depending on what you would like to explore.
