Jason Koenig
About
I’m a multi-instrument music teacher specializing in guitar, drums, piano, and bass. My teaching approach is built around learning music you’re genuinely excited to play while developing the fundamentals that make you a stronger, more confident musician. Whether you’re a complete beginner, returning to an instrument, or looking to break through a plateau, I tailor lessons to your experience, musical interests, and goals. We can work on your favorite songs while developing technique, rhythm, chords, scales, improvisation, ear training, sight-reading, and music theory in a practical way.
I believe music theory and technique are most useful when you can immediately hear and apply them. Rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all curriculum, I use real songs and musical situations to explain why things work—from chord progressions and scales on guitar or piano to groove, timing, and coordination on drums and bass. My lessons are relaxed and encouraging but focused on steady progress, and my goal is for you to leave each lesson not only able to play something new, but with a better understanding of music that you can carry into everything else you play.
Teaching Style
My teaching style is flexible, practical, and centered around each student’s individual goals and musical interests. I like to use songs that students genuinely enjoy as a starting point for developing technique, rhythm, theory, ear training, improvisation, and overall musicianship. Rather than simply showing you what to play, I want you to understand why it works and how you can apply those ideas to other music. I keep lessons relaxed and encouraging while still providing enough structure and challenge to make consistent progress, whether you’re picking up an instrument for the first time or looking to take your playing to the next level
Curriculum
Piano Adventures, Essential Elements for Guitar, A Modern Method for Guitar, and much more!
Credentials & Affiliations
I have more than five years of music teaching experience working with over 100 students of all ages and skill levels. I spent two years teaching at an extracurricular music academy serving students in the Broward County school district, before transitioning to private in-home instruction, where I taught students individually for nearly three years. In addition to my teaching experience, I have earned both the Avid Pro Tools User Certification and Avid Pro Tools Operator Certification, providing me with professional training in recording, editing, mixing, and music production. As an artist and producer, I have also written, recorded, and produced original rock and electronic dance music, including a full-length album that I independently distributed across major streaming platforms. My combination of extensive one-on-one teaching experience, multi-instrumental instruction, professional audio-production training, and experience creating and releasing original music allows me to help students develop both their musicianship and their understanding of the modern music-making process.
