About
Hello! My name is Jullanar Gamboa. I graduated from Berklee College of Music with a degree in Vocal Pedagogy in 2017 and have been actively teaching ever since. Throughout the years I've worked with students of all ages and backgrounds teaching them essential vocal technique, music theory, and even getting into vocal jazz techniques with some of them.
Aside from teaching, I'm currently an actively gigging musician in the Los Angeles area. I've sung and co-wrote lyrics for the movie soundtrack to the film Whiplash, have partnered with USC students to sing on their school projects, and actively sing at various venues in Los Angeles like the 1894 in Pasadena and have a weekly residency at Edwin Mills by the Equator, also in Pasadena.
I've been teaching in Los Angeles for seven years, first working as a voice and piano teacher at Joe Ferrante Music Academy. From there, I went and worked at San Marino Music school as a voice and piano teacher as well, and left to teach at Arabesque Music Conservatory.

Teaching Style
I would describe my teaching style as supportive, encouraging, and student-centered. I like to meet each student where they are and adapt my approach to their individual goals, learning style, and experience level. I focus on building a strong foundation in technique and musicality while making lessons engaging and relevant to the student.
For voice, I emphasize healthy vocal technique, breath support, warmups, and developing confidence in the student's own voice. For piano, I balance fundamentals such as reading, technique, and theory with songs that the student actually enjoys playing.
My goal is for students to feel challenged but not overwhelmed, and to leave each lesson feeling like they've learned something meaningful and are excited to keep practicing.
Curriculum
My teaching method is individualized and foundation-based. I first assess the student's current skill level, goals, and learning style, and then structure lessons around those needs. I introduce fundamental concepts such as technique, music theory, ear training, rhythm, and reading, and then apply those skills directly to songs and music the student enjoys.
I believe students learn best when they understand not only how to do something, but also why they're doing it. I use demonstration, repetition, guided practice, and positive feedback to help students develop skills and confidence over time. I also adjust my approach as the student progresses, so lessons continue to be both challenging and enjoyable.
Recommended student texts, for piano I often rely on the Faber books. They combine both music theory and song learning which I find to be most important for the students. They also have other books on music theory and incorporating those into my lessons are crucial.
As for voice, I would recommend The Contemporary Singer. It teaches the basics of singing, has a variety of vocal warm ups for different goals, and teaches the fundamentals of being a strong performer.
