About

I have been a professional jazz musician and teacher for 25 years. I teach saxophones, flute, clarinet, and basic piano. I studied at the Manhattan School of Music, New School, and SUNY Purchase. I teach all styles of music encompassing sight-reading, rhythm, music theory, and each lesson is tailored to the specific needs of the student. Teaching music an absolute joy and I look forward to meeting and working with new students!

Teaching Style

I assess what level the student is at and determine what course of action to implement with patience and care. It's important to meet the student where their needs and interests are. Also, its important to ascertain what their apparent strengths and talents are, and encourage accordingly. Musican lessons should be fun and I like to foster a creative and positive learning environment.

Curriculum

For rudimentary level students I use methods such as the Rubank books and Selected Duets. For advanced jazz students I use books by Sigurd Rascher, Mark Levine, and Eddie Harris. I also incorporate teaching styles I learned with my previous teachers such as Phil Woods, Dick Oatts, Chris Potter, and Joel Frahm.

Credentials & Affiliations

I have taught at the Poughkeepside Day School, C- Note Music School, Harrison School of Music, Music and Arts, and The Bennett Conservatory.
