I have band (Gulf Coast Concert band) and symphony (Big Spring Symphony) experience and have played at many venues. I can play difficult music of varying types effectively and expressively. I take students from beginner to proficient very quickly. I have played solos at Carnegie Hall with my high school honor band. I have won the Texas Tech 2007 masterclass. Teaching Style
I use a classical teaching style. I focus on tone, pitch, breathing, playing, and performance and style. I use handouts, method books, warm up books, and solo books and metronome. I focus first on how to hold and put together the instrument, and then on headjoint tones, then putting the instrument together, learning fingerings and then starting to play beginner selections and progress from there. I help the student to find their own unique sound and confidence. I help them to relax and have fun while they play.
Curriculum
I focus first on how to get out and put the flute together and hold the flute, then the first sound on the headjoint, then headjoint tones, then putting the flute back together to learn fingerings and basic notes, then starting with beginner music selections and exercises. I recommend the Rubank Elementary method for flute or piccolo and the Trevor Wye daily exercises book.
