About

In 2009 I achieved a First-Class BA (Hons) in Popular Music from the University of Wolverhampton. Alongside my formal studies, I had spent several years teaching privately, with local businesses, and at the Yamaha Music School from 2008 - 2010.

Beyond the classroom, I have been an active live performer for over 25 years, playing for a wide variety of events whether it be corporate functions at Cambridge's Kings College, funk and soul energy at Birmingham's Jam House or festivals such as Wendy Fest with multiple ensembles.

More current events have seen my primary local band receive nominations for "covers band of the year" at the Shropshire music awards.

On guitar, I play in a diverse range of styles—from Blues, Country, Funk, and Jazz to Rock, Soul, Swing, Pop, and Gypsy traditions. Whether you are picking up the guitar for the first time or looking to focus on a specific genre, my goal is to help you reach your goals while keeping music fun!

Teaching Style

For me, learning guitar should always be fun, structured, and totally about you. I don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach, so we’ll build your lessons around the actual music you love listening to.

Whether you're trying to nail tricky fingerwork, lock down your rhythm, or wrap your head around music theory, or even try improve reading notation we'll take it step-by-step at a speed that feels totally comfortable for you.

Curriculum

While every lesson is tailored to your specific goals, I always work within a clear, systematic approach—even if it's running subtly in the background!

My philosophy is simple: play first, understand after. Theory shouldn't just be something you read on paper; it needs to be practical theory that you can immediately hear, feel, and use on your instrument. By connecting sound directly to application, you’ll be free to adapt ideas on the fly and just enjoy making music in the moment, without overthinking it.

With this approach, your technique grows naturally right alongside your musicality—giving you both the skills and the confidence to express yourself.
