John Raymond Wilkerson
About
I work as a Graduate Teaching Assistant in the saxophone studio at Florida State University, where I am also getting my Master's degree in Saxophone Performance. I have been teaching saxophone for 6 years and been playing for 14 years. I teach from students in elementary school to college level. My teaching experience ranges from private lessons to large group band rehearsals.
Teaching Style
I teach with a focus on every important detail, with a delivery of positive tone and empowerment. I do not believe in 'talent;' I believe in hard work and a positive relationship with music and the saxophone. I work with my students on finding their own artistic expression. Finding your personal aesthetic and listening to a variety of music is incredibly important for developing passion and good practice habits.
