About
What are you looking to get from lessons?
Whatever goals you have, I have the solutions, tools, and techniques to help you unlock them. I'm grateful to be able to share music-related concepts, ideas, and material I have such passion and respect for. I love what I do.
The key to my lesson philosophy comes from own experiences. A Master's Certificate in Guitar/Songwriting from Berklee Online, over twenty years of live gigs, and over 12 years teaching guitar students from all areas of life. With music all around us, I find it hard not to be mesmerized by all its variety. I remember car rides from my childhood with my older brother Bill, who blasted Led Zeppelin and AC/DC through the speakers in back seat of his Chevy Malibu. I can remember getting my first cassette tape, which had Marvin Gaye's version of "I Heard It Through the Grape Vine" and "Good Vibrations" by the Beach Boys--it gave me chills! After I almost wore it out, I took that very same tape and recorded Motley Crue over it, and then later Green Day when I started to explore and discover music on my own. How could I forget to mention my father's record player, and my 3 favorite records at the time: Billy Joel's Glass Houses, Hank Williams Jr., and Simon & Garfunkel's Greatest Hits. And the beat goes on: today I continue to follow the same obsessive love for music that moves me. From morning meditation ragas, to evening ambient dance. It's really refreshing to find modern artists that I relate to. My friends play a big part in taking time to turn me onto new music. Will you?
Teaching Style
One technique that can be super fun and useful is using theory* to help you memorize your favorite songs! Or how about taking your favorite song to learn chords* up the entire neck?! DON'T let this scare you if you've never heard of some of these things. It's my own variation on an invaluable skill that can be yours too! Of course, there are many ways to build confidence like this or with some of the other focus areas that may have crossed your mind (listed below). With so many subjects to tackle when learning the guitar, I know it's easy to feel overwhelmed. DON'T worry! Develop a personalized lesson plan with me and you will be amazed by what you can accomplish!
I think connecting and getting to know each other better, along with being able to communicate effectively with one another, is one of my favorite things about teaching lessons. Another thing I feel can set me apart from other teachers is that I have miles of patience and experience. I am also very organized, with explanations, book material, and even how to log your practice time to get the most out of what we work on!
