LessonFace Clarinet Teacher of the Year 2018
A graduate of Appalachian State University and Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary, Dawn Linebarrier is an experienced musician with a passion for helping students reach their musical potential. With two decades of musical leadership and education experience, Dawn has worked with students age 3 through adult in many different settings including teaching private lessons, elementary general music, and high school band and chorus classes; directing an area community orchestra and co-directing a community handbell ensemble; and many music ministry positions including directing children's choir and handchimes, adult handbells, church orchestra, praise band, and adult choir. Dawn specializes in teaching piano and woodwind instruments and leading the worship ministry at her church.
My philosophy of music education is that we need to meet each individual student where he or she is. We have to get to know the student's reason(s) for taking lessons, what his or her goal is, and what learning style best fits with him or her. As I teach, I constantly evaluate how best to meet the musical needs of the student so he or she can progress and be fulfilled as a musician, no matter what the ultimate end goal he or she has.
I do utilize method books to aid in teaching students. There are many well-written and well-planned method series readily available to aid teachers in shaping the course of a student's musical journey. I do, however, still work with each student on his or her own level and adjust as needed with other supplemental resources. Each student is an individual, so, as the teacher, I utilize as many resources as possible to help each student achieve his or her goals and to become the best musician he or she can be!
My passion is music, and I work hard to inspire my students to love music, too!
