About
My name is Steve Stine, and I've been a private and group lesson guitar teacher for nearly 25 years. I'm an enthusiastic teacher, including serving as an adjunct professor at NDSU, teaching at local institutions such as Elevate Rock School and Red River Valley Academy Montessori school, writing a monthly lesson column for Guitar World magazine, and creating courses at Guitar Zoom.
I studied at Moorhead State University under the guitar instruction of Mike Coates, and have since performed and toured extensively, making guest appearances on albums for artists such as Penny and Pals, Dozer, Sarah Morrau, and Eric VanLandingham, among many others. In the last year, I have had the privilege of co-writing with Brian May of Queen, Julian Lennon, Michael J. Willett, and Rick Springfield.
I've had major international success with my band GrimmStine (a collaboration with Steve Grimmett/Grim Reaper), participated in releases and performances from other bands such as Avian and Entice, and opened for large touring acts such as Journey, Cinderella, Primal Scream, Nazareth, Dokken, Slaughter, and many others.
I’m dedicated to enthusiastic and dynamic teaching as a means of creating and nurturing a lifelong love of music knowledge and skill in children and adults. My philosophy on teaching is to make the lesson fun, inviting, encouraging, but educational at the same time.
The first thing we’ll do is develop some goals based upon what you want to learn. Then I construct each lesson to cater to the aspirations and style of the student. I have always been a “real-time” teacher and adjust constantly to the student’s interests. Rather than a prescripted curriculum, I have developed a cloud-based resource library with audio, video, and text files that support what is being discussed.
