As a guitarist and guitar teacher, I’m often asked something along the lines of “How hard is it to learn to play guitar?” It’s a fair question, and like many questions that mirror this one, there isn’t a one size fits all answer. The idea is too large, even though the question is an appropriate one. The really unsatisfying short answer you’ll hear is “It’s as hard as you make it.” Instead, a better question might be “What can I do with the guitar, and how can I get there?”, though that is also asking something too big.
We asked Lessonface Teachers of the Year about their process and goals for 2025. Here are the responses of Leopoldo Delorenzi, our overall teacher of the year for 2024, as well as the Flamenco and Classical Guitar Teacher of the Year.
2024 has been an exciting year for Lessonface. We grew to include over 3,000 teachers across 200+ subject areas, delivering expert instruction to students worldwide. We’re continually inspired by the expertise and dedication of our community. We’re deeply grateful to all our teachers for their hard work, passion, and commitment to excellence.
Music usually consists of notes and rhythms, and we study both aspects in piano lessons. For many people, the rhythm is harder to learn than the notes. That’s why we put extra effort into rhythm practice. Some people think the rhythm is more important than the notes! I know a musician who said he’d rather play a wrong note than miss a beat. When the rhythm is accurate, the song holds together in a satisfying manner.
We all need a little more “levity” in our lives---moments when we can laugh with ourselves and relax a bit more with life’s experiences. And if we can help other people smile, then that’s even better!
